The European Catalogue of
Volcanoes (ECV) is one if the main products of EUROVOLC. It is an
interactive web-page which gives access to detailed information about
forty-seven (47) volcanoes belonging to and/or which are monitored by European
countries. ECV is an extension of the pioneering Catalogue of Icelandic
Volcanoes, which was created within the FUTUREVOLC FP7 project (2012-2016)
and consists of detailed information on 32 active volcanic systems in Iceland. This
previous work was integrated into the ECV. In addition to the detailed
description of the 47 volcanoes in Europe, the ECV also shows the locations of
72 active volcanoes within the monitoring territories of France, Greece, Italy,
Portugal and Spain.
Information regarding volcanic hazards, geological background, historical activity is all accessible in a formatted way which guarantees a uniform amount of details across the different volcanoes/volcanic systems. A section is dedicated to search for specific eruption information and will contribute to the dissemination of eruption source parameters. Currently few eruptions are listed, but more will be available by the end of the project.
Volcano Observatories in Europe have worked together in collecting data, material, sources and had the common idea of creating an easy-to-use portal designed for a wide audience. Each chapter, per volcano, is available in both English and the local language (i.e. French, Italian, Spanish, Icelandic, Greek and Portuguese).
As you will see the work is not completed yet and, at this stage, it is very important to get the feedback from the users (general public, students, teachers, aviation community, researchers) in order to allow the final implementation before the end of the project in late 2021.
We encourage you to navigate the Catalogue and let us know your comments and feedback through the “Give us feedback” button. This will help to make the European Catalogue of Volcanoes a main source of information about volcanoes and their hazards within the European community.
